Effective security solution at half the cost of CCTV

Two break-ins in quick succession and Lace Market Properties realised it needed a security solution for its period redevelopment in the heart of Bristol. As well as losing power tools, the 71 prestige apartment development was proving attractive to thieves because of the premium fixtures and fittings. As a result, completion times were slipping and losses were being incurred.

At the time Lace Market Properties contacted SitexOrbis, it was looking at installing a £20k CCTV system. But this relied on the site manager to constantly monitor the screen making the system totally inappropriate for the job.

After the technical alarm team’s site survey, SitexOrbis recommended a portable radio alarm system with a 24/7 monitoring and response package. Installed within days, assistant site manager Ian Stevenson describes it as a “cracking system”. The solution consisted of 15 remote wireless devices (passive infra-red detectors and door contacts), a remote keypad for on-site management of the alarm and a GSM portable radio alarm connected to the SitexOrbis Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). In the event of an alarm, the ARC contacted the local SitexOrbis branch to provide accompanied first response.

Ian Stevenson said he was hugely impressed with the technology and the level of service from SitexOrbis. “I’d never seen anything like this before and I would definitely recommend this solution to other people. Because it was wireless I could move the passive infra-reds around to where I needed them - just what is needed on a site like this.”

He added: “It was a great system because if anything happened it texted me the details including the problem’s location on the security zone map. I could also remotely activate and deactivate the system - great when people needed to get on the site at weekends and I wasn’t there.” As for break-ins, there weren’t ANY and the project was able to move ahead without further losses.
